You aren't required to impress anyone with your life choices...
Woah. This one hit me hard. We aren't designed to live our life in order to impress others. We weren't created to only make others think certain things of us. I'm still figuring out what this looks like exactly, but I recently gained a lot of ground in this area.
I used to tell people I wanted to do something certain with my career... I was certain that was my path. Recently, I questioned myself though. Why do I want to do that? Is it because that's what God called me to do, because it's what I have a passion for, because it's my dream.... or is it because I want people to think I'm smart and talented. I realized my deep desire for people to think I am capable and intelligent was controlling my decisions. I asked myself if this was what I wanted my life to look like.... and the answer was 'no'. That's not what I wanted, it was what I thought other people wanted from me. It wouldn't bring my life joy, I was just hoping it would bring me a reputation.
Listen girl, you are not required to explain your decisions to others. You are not obligated to do things so that people think you are smart. You do not have to become something certain or choose a certain career based on the reputation of the career. You do not have to live a defined way or accept that your life has to be a certain way. You get to choose what your life looks like.
Choose a life that makes you happy. Choose a life you want to live, not that you want others to see. Choose a life that you will be happy with when you look back on your life at 80 years old. People don't have to understand. Plus, it's kinda fun that way.
